It is our responsibility to make our work and our spaces as welcoming and representative as possible to as many people as possible.

The Abbey Theatre understand equality, diversity and inclusion through an intersectional lens, and we believe that it is our responsibility – with our partners and collaborators – to make our work and our spaces as welcoming and representative as possible to as many people as possible.

We will work with industry specialists in 2024 and into 2025 to facilitate the development of our current EDI policy. The policy forms part of our organisational strategy and provides a framework to support the artistic programme, ensuring the commitments and values articulated in our policy documents are made tangible in how our work is delivered via the day-to-day operations and activities of the company.

Building on the progress we have made in recent years in gender equality and cognisant of the areas we still need to improve upon, this renewal of our EDI policy targets a wider and more expansive range of people with multiple identities from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Our focus includes our staff, the artists we engage and our audiences.

In addition to our EDI policy, our Literary and New Work and Producing teams are actively working to diversify the pool of playwrights and theatre-makers we engage with, commission and programme.
