DUBLIN, 29 October 2021 – The Abbey Theatre today announced that Christine Monk has been appointed to the role of Director of Communications and Marketing. As a member of the Abbey’s Senior Management Team, Christine will play an integral role in shaping the public face of Ireland’s national theatre contributing to senior decision-making and helping to shape the overall direction of the organisation.

With a wide-ranging career in cultural communications, Christine has worked with a diverse range of cultural organisations and projects including the Gate Theatre, the Arts Council, Project Arts Centre, Cartoon Saloon, Centre Culturel Irlandais, Irish National Opera, the National Youth Theatre, The Lir Academy, and the National Concert Hall. Before moving to Ireland from her native Melbourne in the 1990s, she worked in commercial theatre on campaigns throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia. She has been an adviser to the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards for over 20 years, and is currently a board member with Poetry Ireland, Festival in a Van, and Kilkenny Arts Festival.
Christine will take up the role on the 15th of November 2021.
