Abbey Theatre Associate Director Caitríona McLaughlin won the award for Best Director at the 22nd Irish Times Theatre Awards on 31 March 2019 held in the National Concert Hall. She won the award for her direction of Marina Carr’s On Raftery’s Hill.
As part of our 2019 Season, Caitriona will direct Dylan Coburn Gray’s new play Citysong and Two Pints by Roddy Doyle, which is currently on a US Tour before coming to the Abbey Stage this summer.
There were also wins for our partners Anu Productions, Druid Theatre and Landmark Productions and the Everyman.
The Lost O’Casey
Our co-production with Anu won three awards, Best New Play, Best Actress for Sarah Morris and Best Movement for Sue Mythen the award.
Richard III
The Druid Theatre production of Shakespeare’s play, in association with the Abbey Theatre won Best Production, Best Set for Francis O’Connor and Best Costume for Francis O’Connor and Doreen McKenna.
Asking For It
Asking For It, produced by Landmark Productions and the Everyman in association with the Abbey Theatre and Cork Midsummer Festival won the Audience Award.
